Our corporate commitment to the environment dates back over 30
years. It begins with our sources of supply. Sources of raw
materials for firewood can be monitored only by starting with
logs or orchard wood, so that’s the only source material in
our manufacturing operations. Limiting ourselves to only whole
logs and orchard wood as raw materials allows us to confirm they
have been harvested legally and responsibly. Therefore, as a
HotWood, Inc. customer, you can rest assured that:
- Every HotWood, Inc. softwood product has been manufactured
from logs individually inspected and/or approved by the U.S.
Forest Service, State Department of Forestry.
- Every HotWood, Inc. hardwood product has been manufactured
from logs harvested under a forest harvest plan approved by the
U.S. Forest Service, State Department of Forestry or orchard
wood.
- Every firewood product manufactured by HotWood, Inc. is made
from logs which are by-products of State or Federally approved
reforestation projects or orchard wood.
In addition to encouraging responsible use of America’s
forests, we also take great care in manufacturing firewood in
such a manner as to minimize emissions and eliminate waste. Our
production facilities and quality control points allow us to
package firewood at moisture content levels which insure an
environmentally responsible balance of heating value
(BTU’s) and moisture content through:
- The use of 100% natural dehydration practices and/or dead
standing logs.
- Three separate automated cleaning procedures on our
manufacturing and packaging lines.
- Automated recapture of all waste (sawdust, shavings, bark and
other wood fibre eliminated during grading) and conversion into
electrical co-generation plant fuel or landscaping products.
Environmental responsibility is mandatory in all facets of
HotWood’s operations. We challenge all packaged firewood
manufacturers and suppliers to meet our standards. We encourage
all retailers to make available to the consumer only those
firewood products harvested and manufactured in an
environmentally responsible manner. Our Consumer Affairs Manager
is available to respond to your comments or questions at (209)
333-5480.
